Teen & Young Adult Summer Reading (grades 6-12)

Teens & Immature Adults!

Our teen and young adult programme is for those
entering 6th grade though twelfth form.
Pick up a reading log and read your way around the globe.
Read 1 book from each of the 6 continents
(Antarctica not included)  to win prizes!
Discover suggested reading lists at the library or on
our Wakelet site through the summer.

Registration begins June 1st!

Summertime Reading Events

The library is following guidance as ready forth past various health officials about the offer of programs and group gatherings.
We are not offering in-person programs inside the library, but nosotros've teamed up with Central Gardens of Due north Iowa and Clear Lake Parks and Recreation
to provide some in-person programming around town! Take a look: click on the consequence proper noun to be redirected to that issue page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How practise I sign upwardly?

A: You can register in the library starting June 1st!

Q: Tin can I annals online?

A: Non this year. Because of how our program is structured, it'southward non conducive to online tracking. Stop by the desk to register!

Q: Why read during the summer?

A: On average, children lose about 2 months (!) worth of learning over the summer if they don't read. It's nicknamed the "Summertime Slide" and can accumulate over the years. That means that past middle school, if a child doesn't work to retain what they've learned, they could be more than than 2 years behind their classmates! The good news is: Summertime Slide can be prevented! Reading (for enjoyment!) just 20 minutes a day helps children retain what they've learned throughout the schoolhouse year and helps them to get-go their fall semester more successful. This is particularly important this twelvemonth as students will be away from their classrooms longer.

Reading isn't the only way to vanquish the summertime slide: try cooking, planting a garden or listening to sound books!

Q: Can I consummate the plan more than once?

A: No. Each participant may only complete their program one time over the grade of the summer.

Q: Do we need to be present to win the prize drawings?

A: No. We will do the grand prize drawings during the last week of July, after the programme has ended. If you lot win, yous will be notified to pick upward the prize at the library. Prizes not picked up by the terminate of August are forfeited.
